Our Protocol
With over 50 years of research, our technology is accurate and trusted by leading experts and institutions in the field of neuroscience and well-being.
By following the 5 steps outlined in our protocol, we identify the issues affecting your brain and provide the necessary treatment.
1. Brain Maps
Neurological Brain Map – qEEG
At Horizon TBI & Brain Center, we use a non-invasive medical device called quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) to diagnose traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and mental health conditions. Our 19-lead qEEG measures the brain’s electrical activity and helps us identify abnormalities and dysregulated brain wave frequencies.
In cases of TBI, the qEEG can identify specific patterns indicative of brain dysfunction, such as abnormal brain waves or reduced connectivity between brain areas (Gosselin et al., 2016). Similarly, for mental health conditions, the qEEG helps recognize deviations from normal brain activity associated with disorders like depression, anxiety, or ADHD (Arns et al., 2016).
Connectivity Brain Map
A connectivity brain map, also known as a connectome, is a detailed diagram of the brain’s connections. It helps diagnose TBIs and mental health conditions by showing disruptions in how the brain is wired and how the brain functions. By understanding these disruptions, our neurology team can accurately diagnose, design personalized treatments, monitor progress, and gain insights into these conditions.
2. Computerized Tests
Consultation & Neurological Exam
During the consultation, our neurology team will discuss your medical history and any symptoms you may be experiencing. The neurological examination involves a series of tests to evaluate your cognitive and physical abilities, including balance, coordination, reflexes, and memory.
Computerized Neurocognitive Exam (CNE)
A CNE is used to assess cognitive function. It evaluates different aspects of cognitive function, such as memory, attention, and reaction time, by asking you to complete a series of tasks while your responses and reaction times are recorded. Using AI technology our results are extremely accurate and reproducible.
Computerized Neuropsychological Exam (CNP)
A CNP is an exam that consists of a series of tasks to assess various aspects of cognitive abilities, such as memory, attention, language, problem-solving, and visual-spatial skills. The results provide a detailed profile of an individual’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses and can be used to diagnose a range of neurological and psychological conditions.

3. Personalized treatment
After an assessment of the brain maps and examinations, your neurology team will create an individualized treatment plan with a customized Neurofeedback protocol.
For instance, our team may recommend up-training alpha waves, which are associated with relaxation, focus, and an overall sense of well-being. This can be beneficial for individuals experiencing TBI symptoms, anxiety, or difficulty concentrating. On the other hand, down-training high beta waves, which are often related to stress and hyperarousal, may be helpful for individuals with conditions such as insomnia or attention issues.
The beauty of a customized Neurofeedback plan is its ability to provide immediate feedback on YOUR brain activity and help you learn how to self-regulate your brain function.
4. Neurofeedback training
Enhance your brain function through engaging activities like specialized games or videos that monitor your brainwaves in real-time. This process, known as neurofeedback or brainwave biofeedback, employs operant conditioning by providing positive visual and auditory feedback when specific brainwaves align with the desired target range. As you engage in these activities, advancements in the game or a more immersive viewing experience are unlocked when your brainwaves reach the target range, reinforcing the desired cognitive states. Neurofeedback training helps to improve neuronal communication by helping to improve diffuse axonal sheering.
Neurofeedback training promotes neuroplasticity, allowing your brain to adapt and reorganize itself based on the repeated reinforcement of beneficial brainwave patterns. By consistently participating in neurofeedback sessions and stimulating activities, you can optimize your brain’s flexibility, efficiency, and overall cognitive function. With personalized assessment and tailored protocols, this approach offers a pathway for self-improvement, empowering you to unlock your brain’s full potential.
5. Consistency
Practice makes perfect!
Regularly engaging in neurofeedback can have significant benefits for your cognitive and emotional health.
Similar to how regular exercise builds and maintains physical strength through muscle memory, consistently practicing neurofeedback allows your brain to develop its own “muscle memory” and foster long-term improvements.
By training consistently over time, operant conditioning techniques in neurofeedback can optimize your mental state, leading to enhanced cognitive function, improved emotional well-being, and greater overall brain health.
Most people start to see changes right away, but it can take up to 18 months for these changes to become permanent. If you stop the training to soon you may lose the progress you’ve made because you have not developed the necessary “muscle memory” for your brain.
