WHAT IS A BLAST TBI
A blast Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) refers to a specific type of brain injury resulting from the exposure to a high-pressure blast wave or explosion.

Types of Blast tbi
- Primary blast injuries are caused by the blast’s shock wave traveling through the body. These types of injuries can cause concussions or mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) without a direct blow to the head.
- Secondary blast injuries are caused by shrapnel and other flying debris hitting the body or helmet.
- Tertiary blast injuries occur when the service member is accelerated into a solid object such as the ground or the interior of a vehicle.
- Quaternary injuries include crush injuries, burns, and inhalation of smoke or noxious gases.
